A wedding in the Italian region of Rome will cost you R34,000.

A province in central Italy has announced that it will provide couples with a €2,000 (about R34,000) cash award to go towards their wedding expenses if they choose to get married in the region.

Tourists are included in this category.

According to the national tourism board, Lazio is the second most populous area in Italy, and it includes the country’s capital, Rome, as well as other major cities.

According to a statement on the region’s official website describing its new wedding fund, branded “Nel Lazio con amore,” or “From Lazio with Love,” or “From Lazio with Love,” applications for the fund began being accepted on Monday. It will continue to accept them until either January 31, 2023, or until the money runs out, whichever comes first.

A portion of the €10 million fund will be made available to applicants who “marry or civilly unite in Lazio” between January 1 and December 31, 2022, as well as those who “buy services or products relevant to the event from Lazio firms,” according to the announcement.

According to the statement, Lazio’s cash fund intends to revitalize wedding tourism while also addressing the economic issue by providing assistance to local companies that have suffered client losses as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak.

In addition, the fund can be used to redeem a lengthy list of wedding services, including wedding planners, bridal gowns and engagement rings, wedding venues, food, floral arrangements, photographers, and up to €700 (about R12,000) towards a honeymoon, according to the statement. As previously stated, only one member of a couple may submit an application, and each pair may request reimbursement of up to five expense documents through the website of the Lazio area.

According to the Guardian, barely 9,000 couples have tied the knot in Lazio since the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus began in March 2020, compared to more than 15,000 in 2019. The president of Lazio, Nicola Zingaretti, told the publication that the wedding industry, in particular, has “suffered greatly as a result of the economic crisis.”

He went on to say that they made “major investments in place with an eye toward the tourism sector, as well as with the awareness and pride that comes from being able to talk about every area of our territory.”

The region of Lazio, according to Zingaretti, is an excellent location for a wedding because it is home to a variety of historic landmarks. According to the wedding-planning website Top Wedding Sites, some of the most popular wedding photo locations in Rome include the Spanish Steps, the Colosseum, and the Trevi Fountain, all of which have long been popular locations for wedding photography.

It was observed on the website of Passaggi, an Italian wedding and life events organization, that Lazio has a lot to offer outside of Rome, including various countryside houses that are suitable for hosting a wedding ceremony.

Insider reached out to representatives of the regional government of Lazio for comment, but did not receive a response right away.
