Billund Airport Had Record Traffic In 2023

In spite of the fact that there is still one month left in 2023, Billund Airport has already surpassed its previous passenger record for the year 2019. Even if there was a little decrease in the number of people that used the airport in November compared to the same month in 2022, the airport nevertheless managed to break the previous record: 215,880. A steady development trajectory was paused by the epidemic, but the airport is currently focusing on sustainable increase in both passenger and freight numbers. This accomplishment comes after the pandemic.

The airport’s managing director, Jan Hessellund, emphasizes the airport’s attractiveness for foreign investors while highlighting the airport’s distinctive market positioning for business and tourism. The goal of this positioning is to increase the number of tourists passing through Denmark.

As a result of low-cost airlines like as Ryanair and Wizz Air halting several flights during the winter, the airport is seeing a change in the distribution of traffic. On the other hand, network airlines such as KLM, Lufthansa, and Air France are enjoying growth. In November, network firms reported a roughly ten percent rise in the number of business travelers. This change is partially attributable to the comeback of business travel.

As far as air freight is concerned, the freight center at Billund Airport saw a noteworthy 13.3 percent gain in November 2023 in comparison to the same month in the previous year. This was the case despite the fact that the market was internationally tough and distinguished by decreasing demand and lower pricing. A large contribution to this rise has been made by Maersk Air Cargo’s extra aircraft and strategic placement, which has enabled the airport to increase its market share in the air freight sector of Europe.
