Cancun Airport Is Closed Due To Reported Blast

A thunderous burst that some compared to gunshots or a bomb erupted inside Mexico’s Cancun International Airport on Monday afternoon, causing travelers to describe a chaotic scene.

According to initial accounts on social media, a “shooting” occurred, resulting in a stampede of people fleeing and shouting, triggering at least a partial evacuation of the airport.

“When I was at the Cancun airport waiting for a flight, I looked up and saw a crowd of people racing towards me, shouting. People are scurrying behind counters and chairs to avoid being seen. People seem to believe that someone is in possession of a firearm, but security is unable to confirm this. The terminal has been at least partly evacuated, according to reports “On Twitter, journalist Joshua Freeman expressed his thoughts.

Despite the fact that multiple videos taken inside the airport showed frightened people seeking refuge and security officers on the move, no evidence of a gunshot or explosion has been found.

Later, Freeman said that he was informed by security authorities that an x-ray equipment had detonated in the building.

“The alarm has been turned off, and individuals have been let back inside the building. Someone who worked at the airport and declared that passengers might return to the terminal later told me that security had notified her that an x-ray machine had burst into flames, which caused a panic.”
