Volotea Launches New Athens-Palermo Route - Travelrnews

Volotea, the airline that links medium-sized urban areas and European capital cities, is continuing to play a leading role in the recovery of the tourism sector, and announced today in Athens the launch of a new international connection to Palermo: starting on June 10th, passengers will be able to fly to the capital of Sicily from the Greek capital. There are more than 11,500 tickets available on the new route, which will be run twice weekly (every Tuesday and Friday). With the launch of this route, the total number of tickets available for sale in Athens for the summer of 2022 has increased to more than 560,000, and the number of destinations has increased to 15 as well.

The opening of the new route shortens the distance between Greece and Sicily, ensuring a steady supply of comfortable flights at low costs to Palermo, the principal Sicilian city, which is rich in art, history, beaches, and delicious cuisine. The route will be operated by Aegean Airlines.

This latest announcement demonstrates the company’s commitment to expanding the number of summer destinations that can be reached from the Greek capital, including Bilbao (new route 2022), Bordeaux (new route 2022), Lyon, Marseille, Nantes, Strasbourg, Bari, Turin (new route 2022), Venice, Verona, Crete, Mykonos, Santorini, and Dubrovnik (all new routes 2022), and now Palermo.

The airline will provide more than 560,000 seats (compared to 182,000 seats offered in 2021) from Athens International Airport and will operate more than 3,600 flights (compared to 1,162 flights conducted last year) from the airport.

“The announcement of the new Athens-Palermo link gives us with a sense of pride and accomplishment. As evidence of our commitment to supporting the recovery of the tourism sector, both incoming and outgoing, we launched a new route from Athens to Turin only a few weeks ago, and since the beginning of the year, we have launched two additional routes to France (Bourdeaux and Nantes) and Spain (Bilbao), as well as two additional routes to Turkey (Istanbul) “Valeria Rebasti, Volotea’s Country Manager for Italy and Southeastern Europe, shared her thoughts. Adding this additional route will enable Greek travelers to travel more conveniently to Sicily, so expanding their travel possibilities even more.

More than 1 million people have been carried by Volotea since the beginning of its operations in 2015, the year of the company’s debut in Athens, with a total of more than 11,000 flights.
