The Virgin Limited Edition, which is Sir Richard Branson’s luxury collection of award-winning hotels and retreats, has announced that it will be developing a brand-new small luxury hotel on its Son Bunyola Estate in the breathtaking Tramuntana region of Mallorca. The hotel will have a total of 28 bedrooms.
The hotel, which is currently under construction, will be located on the stunning Son Bunyola Estate, which is a part of the Virgin Limited Edition portfolio. The word “finca,” which means “country land with an estate building,” describes the structure that will serve as the hotel’s centerpiece.
The Finca will become an integral part of a spectacular 810-acre estate that is located on a UNESCO World Heritage Site and already occupies the collection’s three stand-alone luxury private villas when it opens in the summer of 2023 as the Son Bunyola Hotel. The estate is scheduled to open for business in the summer of 2023.
The Finca is an important historical site that plays an essential role in both the private estate’s history and the history of the surrounding region. It was constructed in the 15th century and is encircled by vineyards, trees bearing citrus fruits and almonds, as well as olive trees.
The hotel will save all of the original elements of the finca and bring it back to life as a spectacular new hotel in one of the most prominent and protected locations of the Tramuntana region. In addition, the hotel will have amazing views that stretch out over the Mediterranean coastline.

The development of the Finca started in June of the previous year with a painstaking historical rehabilitation project that concentrated on the already existing buildings and structures. At the heart of the hotel’s design is the use of traditional and regional building materials. The hotel will be brought to life with the help of a combination of new design and existing historical elements such as wooden carpentry, stone arches, wrought ironwork, and lime rendering. This will ensure that the Finca’s history is celebrated and showcased at every opportunity that presents itself.
The hotel will include the main Finca, as well as the Tafona, which was once home to the old olive press, in addition to a number of outbuildings that serve as annexes. These will be home to a total of 28 magnificent rooms and suites, the highlight of which will be a pair of Tower Suites, one of which was previously a defensive tower from the Middle Ages erected in the 15th century.
The hotel will have two restaurants, lounges, multiple outdoor eating terraces, as well as an astonishing brand-new swimming pool with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and Mallorca’s well-known Foradada.
This restoration project, much like all other Virgin Limited Edition properties, places a strong emphasis on sustainability from the very beginning, with a number of essential initiatives serving as basic building blocks from the very beginning of the design process.
While the hotel’s hot water will be pre-heated using energy gathered from the air conditioning and refrigeration cooling systems, the installation of a biomass boiler will be fuelled by recovered wood chippings. This will allow the hotel to reduce its overall carbon footprint.
The thermal insulation of the building has been upgraded, and water is being collected and reused for irrigation. Additionally, a building management system will be added throughout the hotel in order to monitor and control the amount of power, lighting, and air conditioning that is consumed on the premises.
Later this year, reservations will begin to be taken for the new hotel, which will open its doors in the summer of 2023. This will be an addition to the estate’s three individual villas, which are named Sa Punta de S’Aguila, Sa Terra Rotja, and Son Balagueret.
