Beginning on March 28, United Airlines will enable workers who have not been vaccinated to return to customer-facing jobs.

In accordance with the carriers’ vaccination obligation, around 2,200 United workers who elected not to be vaccinated against Covid-19 were given reasonable accommodation status on the basis of their health or religious beliefs. Since the fall, those employees have been on administrative leave or have been reassigned from their previous posts.

As stated in a letter to employees sent out on Thursday, United Vice President of Human Resources Kirk Limacher said Covid-19 cases have dropped by more than 90 percent since their peak in January, and hospitalizations have dropped by more than two-thirds. Limacher added that those employees will be able to return to their previous positions in the near future because Covid-19 cases have dropped by more than 90 percent since their peak in January.

According to Limacher, “we anticipate that the number of Covid cases, hospitalizations, and fatalities will continue to fall over the following several weeks.”

According to Limacher, five United workers who were given reasonable accomodation status have passed away.

As he put it, “any loss of life is awful, but at United, our vaccinated personnel have shown to be much less likely to lose their lives to Covid.”
