Ukrainian Refugee Pet Charges Reduced in Bulgaria

As a special gesture of charity, Bulgaria Air is providing free pet transportation to any and all Ukrainian refugees who are now escaping the violence but do not desire to leave their beloved pets behind. Pets will no longer be charged for transportation on the airline’s normal direct flights if the passengers have Ukrainian passports or refugee cards, according to the company.

Bulgaria Air is unquestionably demonstrating the true meaning of its tagline for its animal transportation services by making this kind gift to people in desperate need: “We fly for animals.”

“Because we are aware that they are a member of your family.”

There is no one left behind. The national carrier has chosen to acknowledge that pets are equally as important as people in the lives of their owners and are an important component of every household.

Although pets may be transported, they need a great deal of extra attention in terms of both the handling and the load management aspects of the aircraft, which is why some airlines charge higher prices and have tight restrictions when it comes to flying animals.

Unfortunately, as a result of these roadblocks, refugees, particularly in countries such as Germany, Poland, and Romania, have found it very difficult to move their cherished pets. While attempting to evacuate, certain refugees have been forced to ditch their pets altogether or to opt not to go at all, depending on their situation. The European Commission has thus called on the Member States to make procedures for the safe transportation of pets easier to understand and implement.

Additionally, the Humane Society International – an international non-governmental animal protection organization – had called on not only airlines but also a variety of other transportation companies to improve the transportation of refugees’ pets from Ukraine, as stated by Ruud Tombrock, the Executive Director of the Europe division of the Humane Society International:

“In the last few weeks, HSI/Europe has contacted out to 75 transportation firms, urging them to do all within their ability and resources to make it easier for dogs to travel on aircraft and buses. It is unacceptable for anybody to be separated from their cherished four-legged buddy, particularly at a time of difficulty.”

Pets are allowed to fly for free.

It comes as no surprise that Bulgaria Air, a national carrier that has long been known for its hospitality towards in-flight animals, has decided to step in, as expressed by Hristo Todorov, the airline’s Executive Director: “As a national carrier that has long been known for its hospitality towards in-flight animals, it comes as no surprise that Bulgaria Air has chosen to step in.”

Bulgaria Air has always taken its corporate social responsibility seriously in regard to numerous causes, therefore it comes as no surprise that even in a difficult crisis like the present one, we reach out again, providing a reason to smile for hundreds of people escaping the violence.”

The kind gesture in support of Ukrainian refugees will be accessible through the end of July, and Bulgaria Air will continue to provide pet transportation services to all of its other clients at the present rates.

According to the airline, there is no restriction on the weight of dogs and cats that are flown in the overhead compartment. Specific sizes, on the other hand, must be carried in a cage or transport container with particular measurements, which must be identified, at least three months old, and vaccinated against rabies before being transported.

Efforts in aid of humanity. As of right now, Bulgaria Air is the first and only airline to forgo transportation expenses for Ukrainian migrants – a move praised by Rudd: “Bulgaria Air is the first and only airline to waive transportation prices for Ukrainian refugees.”

“We commend Bulgaria Air for being one of the first airlines to provide free transportation for companion animals of Ukrainian refugees. We wish them continued success. Transport limitations for pets may be an additional stumbling block in the lengthy journey to safety for refugees who regard their cats, dogs, and other companion animals to be family members and refuse to leave them behind during their long journey to safety.”

The fact that a national carrier has gone above and above in times of war and other international emergencies is gratifying, especially in these uncertain times.

In these trying times, we can only hope that more refugees and their pets will be able to flee in safety. And here’s hope that other airlines will follow suit in the future, making animal transportation a little more cheap for those who use it for their livelihood.
