Athens, the airline’s first foreign scheduled destination, is serving as the venue for the celebration of Turkish Airlines’ 75th anniversary. This trip bears a unique importance for Turkish Airlines since it was the first time the company flew its national flag over international seas. As a result, the journey contains a lot of meaning for Turkish Airlines.

The first international flight operated by the Turkish flag carrier took off from Ankara at 10:00 on February 12, 1947, and after making a stop in Istanbul, proceeded to Athens Airport, which was then known as Hassani Airport.

Turkish Airlines organized a celebration to mark the 75th anniversary of its first international flight. The event took place at the Dome of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in the presence of guests from the tourism industry, including organizations and representatives from the tourism industry, tourist agencies, and members of the media.

Turkish Airlines Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Mr. Ahmet Olmustur, commented on the occasion, saying, “We are pleased to have flown our national flag in international skies for the first time 75 years ago.” Everyone is aware of the significant role that the aviation industry plays in today’s economy. In addition to contributing to economic expansion and job creation, as well as easing the process of international commerce and tourism, it is the sole quick global transportation network. As one of the most prominent figures in the industry, Turkish Airlines has been making significant contributions to these essential economic operations for decades. It continues to link businesses and individuals all over the globe, making global commerce, investment, tourism, and travel possible.

Following the inaugural flight to Athens, which we commemorate here today, Greece has been the first nation to which Turkish Airlines has made a significant contribution to the economy of the country for the last 75 years. When we take into account that the history of aviation is not more than one hundred years old, we can claim that we developed together and continue to embrace each other by providing support to one another now.

“Having carried 5 million passengers on 37,000 flights since the opening of Athens International Airport, Turkish Airlines’ passengers’ traffic gradually grew by five times, reaching a record annual traffic volume of 500,000 passengers in 2019, an all-time record year also for our airport,” stated Mrs. Ioanna Papadopoulou, Director, Communications & Marketing of Athens International Airport. “Having carried 5 million passengers on 37,000 flights since the opening of Athens International Airport.”

” After two years that were among the most challenging on record for the tourist and aviation industries, we are quite delighted with the recovery possibilities that are now obvious. Within the context of this changing climate, we want to extend our best wishes to Turkish Airlines for many more successful and accident-free flights!

From Istanbul Airport, Turkish Airlines operates 21 weekly flights to the city of Athens and 7 weekly flights to the city of Thessaloniki.
