TUI Cancels Manchester Trips - Travelrnews

In an effort to reduce the amount of stress placed on Manchester Airport, TUI has decided to suspend 43 flights each week until the end of June (MAN). The tour operator made the news today as Britain’s airports prepare for their busiest weekend in years, which comes at a time when the airports are already being hampered by a staffing problem among other concerns.

Therefore, only two days before the highly-anticipated four-day bank holiday that will be held in Britain to honor the Queen’s platinum jubilee, TUI said that it would cancel a total of roughly 200 flights between now and the 30th of June.

According to a statement released by the airport, “because to the extent of on-going disruption in our operation at Manchester Airport, we have taken the exceedingly difficult decision to cancel six flights a day (43 flights a week) beginning on Tuesday, May 31 and continuing through Thursday, June 30.” It is expected that business will go as usual at the United Kingdom’s other airports.

It included: “We are aware of the dissatisfaction that this may cause for individuals who are affected. However, we feel that this is required in order to maintain consistency and improve the quality of service provided to passengers at Manchester Airport.”

Huge lineups are reportedly forming at Gatwick, Manchester, Bristol, and Heathrow as a result of other airlines continuing to cancel their flights. easyJet and British Airways are two of the carriers affected.

Flight delays have been an issue at airports since before Easter, but the situation seems to have reached a breaking point this week as a result of the increased number of British citizens traveling overseas for the half-term school vacation and the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday.

According to the aviation data firm Cirium, there were 291 flights from major UK airports that had to be canceled between May 25 and Tuesday of this week.

TUI said that they would “personally contact all affected clients in departure date order” and that they would get a full refund automatically.

According to what was said in the announcement, “We can reassure our customers that the balance of our flight schedule is likely to proceed as scheduled.”

In response, Manchester Airport said that TUI and its ground operator, Swissport, are experiencing “severe challenges” with their check-in and baggage-reclaim operations due to a lack of employees and a shortage of available workers.

The statement continued by saying, “We understand Tui’s tough choice to cancel a number of services over the course of the next month, while we are certainly sad to see customers’ plans interrupted in this manner.”
