Because the nation is currently struggling with its economy and its leadership, Tui has decided to cancel any and all remaining excursions to Sri Lanka that were scheduled for the month of June.

Following a change in guidance issued by the Foreign Office (FCDO) on 13 May, Tui announced on Wednesday, June 8, that it will not operate package holidays to the country with departure dates up to and including June 30, 2022. The guidance advised against travel to the country for any purpose other than those deemed essential.

Both the airline and the tour operator had already decided to cancel all trips to Sri Lanka between the beginning of April and the end of May. Tui has issued the following statement through a spokesperson: “We will be proactively contacting all affected customers in advance of their departure date in order to explore the alternatives available to them.”

Customers who are only passing through the Sri Lanka international airport are exempt from the cancellations, and Tui has assured everyone that they may continue their vacation as scheduled even if they are already at a resort.

Back in April, Sri Lanka made the decision to proclaim a state of emergency. Since then, the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has resigned, and demonstrations and violent conflicts have broken out as a result of gasoline and food shortages.
