Parking In The Incorrect Direction May Result In £1000 Punishment

Some laws of the Highway Code can come as a surprise to some drivers, such as one that specifies that vehicles must not park in the incorrect direction while turning their vehicle.

Rules apply in a variety of scenarios involving unattended automobiles, including one that requires cyclists passing unattended automobiles to provide sufficient clearance so that the door may be opened.

However, according to Birmingham Live, many drivers are unaware of one law that prohibits them from parking in the opposite direction, which might result in a £1,000 fine.

Rule 248 of the Highway Code states that you shall not park on a road at night in the direction of traffic movement unless you are in a parking area that has been assigned for you.

Some of the requirements of the Highway Code are not codified in law, but this regulation is supported by two statutes, which means you might face criminal punishment if you violate it.

Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 as well as the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 both provide that drivers are not permitted to park on a road at night facing oncoming traffic, respectively. This implies that if it causes an accident, the authorities may file a criminal complaint against the driver.

According to Scrapcarcomparison.co.uk, automobiles parked in the wrong direction at night are completely hidden from view by passing motorists, who would struggle to notice them.

According to a spokesman: “The headlights of vehicles parked in the proper manner would be visible and lit by the reflected light from the back reflectors.

“In the past, we’ve had to deal with automobiles that were written off as a result of a passing car smashing into them when they were partially protruding from a parking place.

“During the day, drivers do not have to be concerned about parking in the incorrect direction; nevertheless, when the night falls, this might become a problem, which could result in a serious accident.”
