Over 1.1 Million Travelers Used Riga Airport This Year

Data on the performance of Riga Airport’s operations reveal that more than 419 thousand passengers passed through the airport in April, bringing the total number of passengers handled by the airport in the first four months of the year to more than 1.1 million.

As a result of new and renewed routes from Riga that began service at the beginning of summer season, as well as increased flight frequency and high aircraft occupancy, the number of passengers increased in April.

“People are taking advantage of the prospects provided by Riga, and we are glad to report that we have even surpassed the optimistic projection in terms of passenger numbers,” says Laila Odia, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Riga International Airport.

In April, the airport handled 4,105 passenger planes and 419.3 thousand passengers, which was 65 percent of the volume seen before to the epidemic.

Riga was utilized as a transit airport by 71.4 thousand passengers, or 17 percent of all passengers.

Because of the increased number of passengers, Riga Airport would like to remind passengers that they should come on time – at least two hours before their flight – in order to complete all essential processes and pass through security screening.

As a result, the number of business, technical, and other flights served by the airport in April climbed by a quarter when compared to March 2019, with 322 such flights being served by the airport. Comparing the same time in 2018 to the same period in 2019, the number of business, technical, and other flights grew by 86 percent.
