In an effort to grow outside the Greater Toronto Area, Canadian startup Lynx Air is adding four new destinations and five new flights to its existing network.

Lynx will introduce three additional flights from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and two new routes from John C. Munro Hamilton International as part of the plans (YHM). From June 28, the number of flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Calgary (YYC) will rise from seven flights per week to 12 flights per week.

According to Lynx CEO Merren McArthur, the airline will operate 92 flights per week in and out of the Toronto area by the end of July, resulting in more than 17,000 seats each week in the region.

Starting on June 30, the ULCC proposes to operate a three-times-weekly service between Toronto Pearson and Halifax (YHZ). YYT will begin operating flights to Edmonton (YEG) on July 28 and flights to St. John’s (YYT) will begin running flights to Edmonton on August 1.

On June 29, two new routes will be started from Hamilton, connecting to Calgary and Halifax. Service to Calgary will initially be provided twice weekly, with the frequency rising to four times weekly on July 29. In addition, the Halifax service will be twice weekly.

“We are looking forward to watching this new airport-airline partnership between Hamilton International and Lynx Air take off at a time when Canadians are looking to make up for lost time with friends and family,” said Cathie Puckering, vice president and head of Canadian Network at Vantage Airport Group and president and CEO of Hamilton International. “We are looking forward to watching this new airport-airline partnership between Hamilton International and Lynx Air take off at a time when Canadians are looking to make up for lost time with friends

Before becoming Lynx, the company was known as Enerjet, and it was a Calgary-based charter airline that specialized in transporting oil-sands employees to working sites in Alberta, as well as completing contracts for tour operators.

Enerjet announced ambitions to transition itself into a ULCC in late 2018, with backing from Canadian investors and private equity company Indigo Partners, which has previously invested in successful airlines such as Frontier Airlines and Wizz Air, among others.

The airline has definite orders and lease agreements in place for 46 Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft over the next seven years, with the first aircraft scheduled to be delivered in 2019.
