Lufthansa Cancels Nearly 1,000 Trips Due To Strike - Travelrnews

The German airline Deutsche Lufthansa said that it will be canceling more than 1,000 flights in advance of a one-day strike by ground employees set for Wednesday. The walkout is slated to take place just as families throughout Germany are getting ready to leave for their summer vacations.

Strikes and personnel shortages have already prompted airlines, including as Lufthansa, to postpone thousands of flights. This has resulted in hours-long waits at major airports, which has frustrated vacationers who were eager to go following COVID-19-related lockdowns.

Lufthansa, the flagship airline of Germany, said on Tuesday that it had cancelled 678 flights at its Frankfurt hub, the majority of which were planned for Wednesday. In Munich, Lufthansa cancelled 345 flights.

More than 130,000 passengers are impacted, according to Lufthansa, and the airline added that there is a possibility that there will be a few more flight cancellations and delays on Thursday and Friday, even though the strike that was called by labor union Verdi in pursuit of a 9.5% pay increase has ended.
