London City Airport Hits Million Passengers In 2022

Following a yearlong trend of consistent growth, the number of passengers using London City airport had a significant spike in May 2022. The airport has already logged more over one million passengers for the year, after having done so for the prior two years at a rate that was lower than that figure.

The airport has expressed its confidence that it will have served three million customers by the end of the year at its terminal.

There were 290,000 passengers that flew out of City airport in May, which is an increase from April’s record of 256,000 passengers and represents 65 percent of 2019 statistics for the same time. Already in 2018, there has been a 29 percent overall increase in the number of passengers utilizing the airport as compared to 2021.

According to Robert Sinclair, the chief executive of London City Airport, “despite a big increase in flights and passengers, along with our airline partners, we have continued to deliver our market-leading passenger proposition of speed, convenience, and on-time performance.” This is something that “I know has been really welcomed by our customers.”

“With flights to 36 domestic and European destinations, we are fully resourced and focused on ensuring that we offer the greatest experience for all of our customers throughout what promises to be a particularly spectacular summer time,” the spokesperson for the airline said.

According to the airport, the most popular leisure routes include flights to destinations such as Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Florence in Italy, the island of Ibiza off the coast of the Balearic Islands, and Nice in the south of France.

This month will see the launch of nine brand new direct flight routes from the airport, including routes to Thessaloniki and Barcelona in Greece and Spain respectively.
