Jetstar Asia Expanding Routes That No Need Quarantine
Jetstar Asia has been granted permission to operate flights between four Southeast Asian destinations and its Singapore Changi (SIN) hub. This will result in an increase in the number of regional flights available.
In addition to Da Nang (DAD), Denpasar (DPS), Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), and Penang (PEN), the airline has been approved to fly vaccinated travel lane (VTL) flights from those cities, bringing its total number of VTL destinations to 13.
The LCC applauded efforts by governments in Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Indonesian island of Bali to enable vaccinated visitors to enter without having to go through a quarantine process, clearing the path for the resumption of international travel.
As Jetstar Asia CEO Bara Pasupathi explained: “Through gradual and safe relaxation of quarantine requirements, as well as the substitution of more expensive PCR tests with the less expensive ART [antigen rapid test], we are gradually removing barriers to international travel, which in turn is contributing to the restoration of consumer confidence.”
Flights to Singapore from Denpasar and Ho Chi Minh City will resume on March 27 and will operate up to three times per week and five times per week, respectively, until further notice.
The service from Penang will commence two days later and will be available up to three times a week at its peak. With Jetstar Asia operating up to twice a week on the trip from Routes Asia 2022 host Da Nang, the route will be back in service on April 10.
“We understand that our customers have lost the opportunity to travel to their favorite places during the previous two years, not just for pleasure and business, but also to reconnect with family and friends,” Pasupathi added.
With the safe reduction of border controls in conjunction with our affordable rates, we are optimistic that international travel will once again be on our consumers’ radar screens.
In a recent statement, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, which was the pioneer of VTLs, stated that more than 450,000 travelers have entered Singapore via VTL flights since the scheme’s inception last September, and that approximately 350,000 vaccinated travel passes have been issued to non-citizens who wish to travel through the lanes.
