At the general aviation (GA) terminal of Indira Gandhi International Airport, the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has built two maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hangars that are on the cutting edge of technological advancement. These hangars, which began providing services to business jets and general aviation aircraft one month ago and are now fully operational,

The new hangars will not only help the operators save time and money, but they will also significantly cut down on the amount of pollution that is caused to the surrounding environment. In the past, general aviation aircraft and business jets were required to expend fuel while traveling between 8 and 10 kilometers in order to undergo maintenance in hangars located near T1.

These airplanes had to fly over a busy runway in order to reach the old hangars that were located close to Terminal 1, which often resulted in wasted time and fuel.

“DIAL is the industry leader in the construction of airport infrastructure of world-class standards. In India, the specialized general aviation facility known as the GA Terminal and the aircraft parking bays were the first of their sort. With the completion of this infrastructure, India is now on par with some of the top airports in the world. Moving ahead, we have created specialized MRO hangars with world-class facilities next to the GA port.

These hangars are the first of their kind anywhere in the nation. According to Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, the Chief Executive Officer of DIAL, “This capability not only benefits the aircraft operators but also assists the Delhi airport in reaching its environmental sustainability objectives.”

Each hangar has space for six to eight general aviation aircraft of a size that falls between the two extremes. These hangars also contain a front maintenance holding space that is about 4,600 square meters in size and can host aircraft that just need minor repair.
