In recent months, Iceland’s tourism industry has been brought to public attention by the nation’s officials, who are striving to devise successful strategies for attracting a greater number of tourists to the country. At the annual meeting of the Tourism Association, which was attended by Lilja Alfresdóttir, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Trade, as well as Grmur Smundsen, CEO of the Blue Lagoon, and Anna Hrefna Ingimundardóttir, Deputy Secretary-General of the Confederation of Icelandic Employers, it was discussed the current state of the tourism industry in Iceland.

In their discussions, participants agreed on the fact that there are several prospects for the country’s tourist sector to recover from the harm caused by the Coronavirus, as well as limits placed in order to prevent the virus from spreading further. According to Lilja Alfresdóttir, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Trade, tourism worldwide has suffered unprecedented setbacks as a result of the pandemic, and the government is determined to assist the tourism sector because it is “one of the pillars of the Icelandic economy,” she stated in this regard.

“It is heartening to learn that the spirit of the business has prevailed and that the booking situation has fast improved after the epidemic. “However, we must stay watchful and provide the business with the assistance it requires, especially via worldwide promotion of Iceland as a tourist destination,” Alfresdóttir said.

In addition, the minister emphasized the significance of the tourist industry in the country’s economy, pointing out that the sector generates about 40% of the country’s foreign currency profits, which is a significant proportion of the total.
