As part of the memorandum of understanding, Emirates will investigate various possibilities for promoting South Africa and encouraging tourists to visit the nation. In addition, South Africa Tourism will work closely with the airline to provide assistance to travel trade partners and tour operators across the Emirates network. This assistance will be provided in the form of the development and promotion of itineraries, the introduction of special packages and promotional giveaways, and the encouragement of incentives, among other marketing initiatives.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was recently signed between Emirates and South African Tourism to promote tourism and increase tourist arrivals and inbound traffic to South Africa from major markets within the Emirates network.

According to Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer, “For more than 25 years, we have invested in South Africa and built our activities there.” We are putting in a lot of effort to bring our services back up to the levels they were at before the pandemic hit. This will help us to create more opportunities for tourists from all over the world to visit South Africa and experience the country’s distinctive natural attractions, world-famous cuisine, and vibrant local culture. Emirates is in a good position to assist in the revival of South Africa’s tourism industry and to contribute to the revitalization of the country’s reputation as a travel destination. Emirates provides travelers with convenient connections to over 130 different locations, and the airline also collaborates with four other airlines to offer even more connections for tourists who wish to travel beyond South Africa’s three main airports.

The Minister of Tourism in South Africa, Lindiwe Sisulu, expressed her delight at the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), emphasizing the several advantages it would bring to travel between South Africa and the Middle East. “We want to continue ensuring that Middle Eastern travelers have an easy time entering South Africa, and this partnership will help us elevate our commerce efforts in terms of packaging the destination,”

“We look forward to welcoming more travelers from the Middle East to experience the various quality-assured products and experiences that cater for this market,” says Lindiwe Sisulu, the Minister of Tourism for South Africa. “These include family-friendly accommodation establishments and activities, a diverse offering of cuisine, as well as wildlife and safari.”

Because the Middle East is such an important market for South Africa, the formation of this collaboration will play a significant role in facilitating easier travel to and from South Africa for tourists coming from that area of the world. “As our tourist industry recovers, we look forward to welcome more visitors from the Middle East,” says South African Tourism Acting CEO Themba Khumalo. This will enhance direct airlift, creating space for more travelers.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the Arabian Travel Market by Badr Abbas, Emirates’ Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations for Africa, and Themba Khumalo, South Africa’s Acting CEO. Lindiwe Sisulu, the Minister of Tourism in South Africa, Adnan Kazim, the Chief Commercial Officer of Emirates, a senior government delegation from the South African Consulate in Dubai, Consul General David Magabe, and members of the South African Tourism Board were also present at the signing ceremony.

As part of the memorandum of understanding, Emirates will investigate potential avenues for promoting South Africa and encouraging tourists to take use of the vast array of attractions that the nation has to offer throughout its network of more than 130 different locations.

Additionally, both sides will investigate the possibility of collaborating on joint advertising and marketing efforts, as well as other initiatives such as familiarization trips to South Africa for members of the travel sector and media. Additionally, Emirates will assist in the transportation of promotional materials provided by South African Tourism to a number of the locations served by its network.
