Drivers cautioned for lengthy weekend

The provincial administration of KwaZulu-Natal has issued a harsh warning to anybody who breaks the law or fails to observe the rules of the road during the holiday weekend in the province.

Long weekends are often associated with a high number of traffic accidents and an increase in crime in the province.

The Department of Transport, Community Safety, and Liaison in the province of KwaZulu-Natal has said that they are aware of the trend and that preparations are in place to guarantee that wrongdoers are apprehended.

Thuba Vilane, the department’s spokeswoman, said that law enforcement forces had been deployed at different locations around the province, particularly on the roadways.

He said that driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding are two of the most significant contributors to traffic accidents.

Traffic levels on the N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) are expected to grow significantly during peak hours, reaching well over 2000 cars per hour.

This, according to the report, might result in slower-moving traffic and longer travel times, putting extra strain on travelers as well as traffic management personnel.

A spokesperson for the N3 Toll Route, Anita Heyl, said that human error is responsible for the vast majority of incidents on the route, including drivers losing control and rolling their cars, head-tail collisions, and vehicles leaving the road.

According to Heyl, other factors that lead to collisions include excessive speed, irresponsible and negligent driving behavior, and unroadworthy automobiles.
