Chile Has Relaxed Entry Covid-19 Requirements

International visitors are no longer required to submit to a COVID-19 test upon arrival. All passengers must have completed the COVID-19 immunization series by the time they reach the age of six.

Guests two years of age and older are required to present a negative COVID-19 test done 72 hours prior to their departure date. Travelers must complete a traveler’s affidavit within two days of their arrival in order to expedite their admission into the country.

The completion of the affidavit permits overseas visitors to obtain a QR code that they may display on their phones. The QR code minimizes the amount of time people have to wait at ports of entry across Chile.

At the time of admission, all visitors are required to present authorities with their vaccination status, a trip itinerary, and their contact information. In order to enter the country, foreign travelers must provide evidence of $30,000 in travel insurance coverage that includes compensation for COVID-19-related procedures.

At the time of arrival, visitors will be randomly selected for a COVID-19 test by health officials. Antofagasta, Iquique, Punta Arenas, and Santiago are among the cities with international airports that admit foreign passengers.

Non-citizens are only granted a small number of vaccination exemptions in Chile. It is estimated that about 95% of Chile’s adults received the COVID-19 vaccine series. The same quarantine and testing procedures apply to tourists who arrive after March 8, 2022, if they have not completed a COVID-19 vaccine series before arriving.

Booster shots have been administered to more than 13.3 million Chileans. Chile’s high immunization rate is among the highest of any country in South America, according to the World Health Organization.

During the period from late January to mid-February, the Omicron form of COVID-19 infected an estimated 39,000 new COVID-19 infections every day in Chile, according to the WHO. After dropping to around 16,000 new infections per day on March 17, the average daily number of new infections has reduced to approximately 16,000 per day.

Over the previous two weeks, the number of fatalities caused by COVID-19 has decreased on an average daily basis by around 40 percent. Chile recorded around 190 fatalities per day from COVID-19 as of late February. As of the middle of March, Chile had an average of roughly 100 fatalities every day.
