Airlines From The Americas Reaffirm 25by2025 Promise

It was welcomed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) that airlines based in the Americas region have maintained their commitment to diversity and inclusion, as evidenced by their renewed commitment to the industry-wide 25by2025 initiative, in which participating companies commit to increasing the number of women in senior positions and under-represented jobs, and to publishing an annual report on key diversity metrics.

An interactive panel discussion on gender diversity was presented as part of the IATA’s Wings of Change Conference Americas, which took place in Santiago, Chile. The panel discussion was titled “Breaking the Airline Industry’s Glass Ceiling.”

A signing ceremony for the 25by2025 commitment took place during which Azul and GOL joined the other 24* airlines headquartered in the Americas area that have previously promised their support. Airports Council International Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) will be the first non-airline organization in the area to join the program, which will be launched in September.

“In bringing 25by2025 to reality, we are glad to see that the airlines from the Americas area are taking the initiative. Having Azul and GOL pledge their support is a significant step forward in our campaign, and we hope that this will serve as inspiration for others to join as well “Peter Cerdá, Regional Vice President for the Americas at the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The increasing number of airlines joining up to 25by2025 demonstrates the tremendous momentum behind the goal of making aviation stronger by increasing the diversity of its workforce. The airlines that have already signed on to the project are demonstrating their commitment to transformation. In order to attract even more airlines to make the commitment and, even more importantly, to report improving gender balance in senior roles, Jane Hoskisson, Director, Talent, Learning, Engagement and Diversity at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), stated that “this is a very strong foundation.”

In order to promote progress in the areas of diversity and inclusion, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in conjunction with Qatar Airways developed the Diversity & Inclusion Awards, which highlight three categories in the areas of diversity and inclusion, including:

The Inspirational Role Model Award, the High Flyer Award, and the Diversity and Inclusion Team are all given out annually.
It is still possible to submit nominations for this yearly awards until 18h00 CET on April 24, 2022. Nominations will be examined by an independent panel led by Karen Walker, Editor-in-Chief of Air Transport World, and comprised of the winners of the 2021 Awards.

The winners of these annual awards will be revealed during the International Air Transport Association’s 78th Annual General Meeting & World Air Transport Summit in September.
