A Taste Of Hastings Cuisine & Beverage Culture

Welcome to Hastings, where you may get fresh fish straight from the boat, fished responsibly, and served up with a smile. If you take a stroll along Rock-a-nore road, past the fishing boats and net huts, you’ll be spoiled for choice with the variety of restaurants, cafés, and markets all offering the freshest seafood available.

The fashionable cafés of the American Ground are a great place to get vegetarian and vegan cuisine, as well as a variety of gluten-free alternatives. St. Leonards also boasts a fantastic gastronomy culture, which is particularly appealing to vegetarians. The greatest restaurants may be found on Norman Road and Kings Road, to name a few of locations.

Hastings Old Town is the place to go if you’re looking for snug pubs that serve decent, honest cuisine, with many of the finest being concentrated in and around George Street and the High Street.

Maggie’s Fish & Chips

Maggie’s serves generous quantities of the freshest seafood, which is procured directly from the market and fleet below and prepared fresh to order. Maggie’s Cafe is a welcoming establishment where you may have a drink of wine or a beer while taking in some of the greatest sea views in Hastings. From now on, Maggie’s will be serving lunch at the boat on Rock-a-norre Road, close to the Fisherman’s Museum on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays as well as other days as needed.

The Stag Inn

A 16th-century bar (the town’s oldest) on the most historic street in Hastings Old Town, The Stag is a must-visit destination. Our interior is pleasant and eccentric, yet it is far from being out of date: original beams, hardwood flooring, log burners, and twinkling lights are among the features. If you go around the back, you’ll discover a magnificent three-tiered beer garden, which is a pleasant respite from the hectic sea-front atmosphere.

Our wonderful (and cute) chef, Ben, prepares some of the tastiest cuisine available in Hastings, and he is open Thursday through Saturday for business. Fresh seafood and seasonal ingredients are used prominently in the cuisine, which is modern in style. Simple foods that are well prepared and elegantly presented. On Sundays, we provide a typical pub meal in the style of the time.

Farmyard

Farmyard is a restaurant and organic wine bar in St Leonards-on-Sea that serves seasonal, locally sourced food. However, it is most known for its meals created from the best local products, which includes anything from Hastings Old Town fish (depending on what the boats bring in) and shellfish to salt marsh lamb chops and well-aged beef from Pevensey, which is just a few miles away. Not to mention a vast range of plant-based recipes, some of which are really unique, such as salt-baked celeriac with truffles and blue cheese, or spiced cauliflower with tahini and dates, which are just a few examples.

Possibly the most intriguing wine list in the area, with over 150 bottles meticulously selected from natural and biodynamic producers, mostly from throughout Europe and Sussex, the restaurant offers a unique dining experience. In addition to the rotating chalkboard of open wines, there is a large selection of wines by the glass. Here, you won’t find anything to drink that isn’t organic, manufactured with little involvement, and without any extra contaminants.

The First In Last Out

The bar area is both bright and airy in the summer and warm and cozy in the winter, depending on the time of year. Customers may choose to sit at the bar or in one of the booths, depending on their preference.

It is possible to dine in the conservatory dining room at the back of the bar, which has panoramic views of the Old Town and the East Hill. In addition to being utilized for restaurant eating, this space may also be rented out for private gatherings. Families with children are invited to join for dinner till late in the evening. There is free Wi-Fi access.

In addition to our regular menu, we offer a variety of specials that are announced on our Instagram feed as soon as they are available. In addition to free WiFi, we are conveniently located on the outskirts of town, close to the seaside and the recently renovated Pier.

The Crown

This autonomous free home is situated on All Saints Street, between the East Hill national park and the seashore, and is run by a group of volunteers. It is located on a lovely street. We provide a warm and pleasant setting in which to enjoy high-quality cuisine and beverages. We provide wonderful home-cooked meals using products sourced from local vendors and in season. We provide a variety of local ales and craft brews, great wines, gin, whiskey, and cider, as well as other spirits. Come in for a cup of coffee or tea and a taste of our selection of soft drinks.

With local art on the walls, daily newspapers, dog-friendly accommodations, live music, free WiFi, open fireplaces, and gaming tables, there is enough here to keep the whole family entertained.

Rock-a-Nore Kitchen

Hastings’ historic fishing neighborhood is home to the Rock and Nore Kitchen, which opened its doors in 2011. The structure, formerly known as the Tan House, dates back more than 200 years and served as a place where fishing nets were waterproofed via the use of an ancient method known as tanning.

The restaurant, which has been open since 2014, has become well-known for its fish dishes, which are cooked using fish that is caught in the vicinity of the establishment.
